MCKINNIE STUDENT RESIDENCE
SCRANTON, PA
The project was a $5.5 million renovation of a previously abandoned, existing 41,500 sf multi-story structure formerly used as a Young Women's Community Center (YWCA).
The building, acquired by Lackawanna College, was to be converted for use as a student residence hall. The project scope was to completely remove all building electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems. Also, the proposed architectural design required a complete demolition of all architectural floor, wall and ceiling finishes leaving primarily only superstructure.
A large basement indoor pool was filled in and prepared to house a new weightlifting center, and a first floor auditorium was demolished and as second floor was added above to increase square footage for additional dorm rooms. The remaining superstructure was supplemented with new interior walls, doors, finishes, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems to create several dorm rooms with accompanying toilet/ shower facilities.
