STUDENT UNION & RECREATION CENTER
SCRANTON, PA
The project was a $2 million renovation of an previously abandoned, existing 30,000sf multi-story structure formerly known as the Catholic Youth Center.
The building, recently acquired by Lackawanna College and within 1 block of the colleges' administration building, was to be converted for use as a student union. The project scope was to renovate the drastically dilapidated gymnasium, remove the 12 lane bowling alley located on the first floor and convert the space into a recreation room / auditorium as well as several hallway, offices and storage area renovations. The HVAC system was completely removed and replaced with a modern system capable of heating a building with large spaces more efficiently.
The project was completed on-time and within budget, it is in use by the college and students on a day-to-day basis, and serves as a regular venue for several outside community events, such as ESPN's Friday Night Fights.
